Merging Motos Without the Chaos: Combining Classes on Race Day

Two riders in one class, three in another. Merging motos is normal club practice — the trouble starts when the schedule, the results and the pit board all disagree. Here is a cleaner way.

Three riders is not a race, it is a group ride

You published a beautiful program. Twenty-eight classes, all neat, all fair. Then nominations closed and reality showed up: 50cc Div 2 has three riders, Vets over 40 has two, and one of them just discovered a flat tyre in the car park.

So you do what every club does. You merge them. Combine the classes, run one moto, score them separately. Simple.

Except it is never simple, because the merge happens at 8:40am on a laminated program that was printed on Thursday.

    Where merged classes fall apart

    • The schedule lies. The board still lists both motos, so riders line up for one that no longer exists.
    • The public feed lies harder. Parents watching the online schedule see a race that will never run.
    • Results get messy. Two classes on track, one set of lap times, and someone with a calculator and a bad afternoon ahead of them.
    • And then it changes back. Two late nominations turn up and suddenly the merge should be undone.

    How merging works in SquadRace

You select the races you want to combine, hit merge, and the riders and lap data move into a single combined moto. The original classes do not vanish — they stay on the schedule, marked as merged, so nobody is left staring at a gap wondering whether they missed their race. Everyone can see where their class went.

It shows up the same way for the public. The live schedule your riders and parents are already refreshing updates immediately: merged classes are marked, the combined moto appears, and the running order still makes sense.

And because race day never sits still, you can unmerge. Riders and lap times go back to their original classes, and the schedule returns to how it was.

    Tell people it happened

The best bit: after a merge or an unmerge, SquadRace offers to send a live alert to the schedule. One tap and the whole track knows that 50cc Div 2 and Div 3 are running together in race 14. No PA, no rumours, no kid missing a gate drop because the paperwork changed after they put their helmet on.

Merging should be a decision, not a crisis

Combining classes is good club management. It gets small classes a real race instead of a lonely lap, and it keeps the day moving. It only becomes a headache when the schedule cannot keep up with the decision.

Make the decision, press the button, and let everyone find out at the same time.
